Aleksandra Niśkiewicz, Marcin Opaliński

Prospective Delegates,

Please welcome the magnificent Chairpersons of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Aleksandra Niśkiewicz and Marcin Opaliński!

During StetiMUN 2024, this committee’s topic will be “Addressing the issue of maritime piracy in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden area.”

The prevalence of sea terrorists in the majority of international waters is already a thing of the past, however, there remain specific territories, such as the Red Sea, where this danger continues to persist. The region has documented 133 incidents of maritime piracy between November 2023 and April 2024, and remains under continual threat of more severe attacks.
Governments of bordering countries appear to be powerless in stopping the sea based crimes, while cargo ships choose to avoid the passage due to safety concerns. This further leads to disruption of global sea trade and an increase in the prices of imported goods.

This topic requires thorough understanding of various perspectives and interests of individual countries and organisations. Is it possible to reconcile them all in order to achieve a common goal? The resolution of StetiMUN’s 2024 UNODC will show!

We cannot wait to see you in October!
