As we slowly approach the end of Chair Introductions, please welcome the Presidency of the International Criminal Court – Urszula Pietrzak and Igor Bazylewicz! This iconic duo will lead a committee with a topic you have never seen before – „The Prosecutor v. Yoav Gallant”, the Israeli Minister of Defence.



The International Criminal Court (ICC) is an international tribunal established in 2002 pursuant to the multilateral Rome Statute. It is the only permanent international court with jurisdiction to prosecute individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, crimes of aggression, and genocide.



Gallant’s position grants him power over the Israeli Defence Forces. This makes Minister Gallant one of the key leaders in the Israel-Hamas war. It began on the 7th of October 2023, when Hamas launched an aerial attack on Israel. On the 27th of October 2023, the State of Israel stopped being idle and launched a full-scale invasion of the Gaza Strip. So far, this conflict has claimed an estimated thirty-eight thousand lives.



This conflict has caused an unthinkable amount of the involved countries’ populations to be displaced, harmed, or killed. The damage has already been done, but justice is yet to be found.
In a court of law, one is not guilty until proven so – is Gallant a war criminal? Or is he just a patriot defending his people? You might just have to come and find out. See you in Szczecin.
